What You Need After Giving Birth

Congratulations on your new bundle of joy! The postpartum period can be a challenging time, but with the right resources, you can make your recovery a little bit easier. Here are a few of our top items to prep for your postpartum care kit:

One essential item for your postpartum care kit is Disposable underwear or large maxi pads. You will experience bleeding for several weeks after giving birth, so having a good supply of differing absorbance pads on hand is crucial.

Another item that should be in your postpartum care kit is a peri bottle. This bottle will help you clean yourself after using the bathroom without causing any discomfort. You can fill it with warm water and squirt it on your perineal area to help ease any irritation or discomfort. (you can also hop in the shower while you pee if that’s easier)

Depending on what your birth looked like (The speed of birth, if you had any tears, and what degree, how many births you’ve had, etc.) the care you need for your vagina, and perineum, might vary but a good rule of thumb for caring for your sore bits is to utilize soothing ice packs, padsicles, Tucks pads, dermablast cooling spray, and sitz bath is also a highly recommended item for postpartum care.

Other items that you may want to consider including in your postpartum care kit are comfortable clothes, nursing pads, nipple cream, and a breastfeeding pillow. Remember to take care of yourself during this time and most importantly of all – don't be afraid to ask for help when you need it.
